A red EL light source 10R, a green EL light source 10G and a blue EL light source 10B respectively emitting red color, green color and blue color are arranged behind the rear sides of liquid crystal display elements 11R, 11G and 11B respectively for displaying one color component of primary color. Respective light sources are formed out of an organic EL element having an organic thin film capable of emitting light. Also, each EL light source has a structure where organic luminous layers 14 are clamped with an ITO electrode 13 and a metal electrode 15 having stripe type patters orthogonal with each other. In this case, light is emitted from a part (light emission part) where the stripe type patterns of the ITO electrode 13 and the metal electrode 15 are orthogonal with one another.
