To provide a high output press whose pressing speed and stroke number are high, energy consumption is low, pressing capability is high with a small driving source, speed for driving slides is high, and pressing speed, stroke, and output can be arbitrarily set.
The press is provided with a numerically controlled motor 2, a multi-start square screw 4 reversibly driven by the numerically controlled motor 2, a elevation body 5 having a nut 5a which is engaged with the multi- start square screw 4 and freely movable along the multi-start square screw 4, and a multilink mechanism 3 connecting the elevation body 5 and a slide 1e. Alternatively, the press is provided with a numerically controlled motor 2, a rotation body 5' having the nut 5a reversibly driven by the numerically controlled motor 2, the multi-start square screw 4 engaged through the nut 5a and freely ascendable and descendable, and the multilink mechanism 3 connecting the end part of the multi-start square screw 4 and the slide.
