Toggling of bits constituting a color signal RGB is detected by a toggling detector 61, and the number of toggled bits is calculated by an adder 62. A first comparator 63 outputs the result of comparison between the calculation result and a Ref1 to a first counter 65. The first counter 65 counts the number of flickers in one line, and a second comparator 66 outputs the result of comparison between the counted result and a Ref2 to a second counter 67. The second counter 67 counts the number of flickers in one frame, and a third comparator 68 outputs the result of comparison between the counted result and a Ref3 as a back light control signal Dim. By this constitution, the brightness of back light is controlled to reduce flickers visually sensed on the liquid crystal display device when flickers higher than a prescribed ratio occur in one frame.
