To provide a liquid crystal display device which has high luminance, a uniform luminance distribution, and superior visibility.

The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a light guide plate which has a light guide part, a reflection part, and a light emission part, a light emitting element which is arranged closely to the light guide part at a corner part of the light guide plate, and a liquid crystal display element which is arranged above the light guide plate; and a light diffusion sheet is interposed between the light guide plate and liquid crystal display element and provided with a light reflecting layer 25 along two side edges of the light guide plate between which the light guide part is held except the parts facing the light guide plate and reflection part and a shading reflecting layer 26 which reflects the light emitted by the light emission part into the light guide plate along other two side edges.
