To provide a liquid crystal display device with which the occurrence of the interference colors of light in a reflective display and lowering of display quality in a transmissive display are prevented.
In the liquid crystal display device 1, a transparent level difference film 109 (for reducing the thickness of a liquid crystal layer) has light diffusing properties. Consequently, light from a reflective display region 12 in a pixel is diffused and subsequently emitted, and as a result the occurrence of the interference color of light in the reflective display is prevented. Moreover, since the transparent level difference film 109 need not be disposed on a transmissive display region 11 inside the pixel, lowering of the brightness and contrast in the transmissive display are prevented.
