To form an alignment layer having a desired pattern with good productivity without lowering pattern precision even when the substrate size of a liquid crystal display element is made large.
The liquid crystal display element manufacturing apparatus is characterized in that an alignment layer printing device is equipped with an intaglio plate roll which has an ink cell on its surface, an ink supply device which supplies ink to the surface of the intaglio plate roll, a printing roll which has a projection part capable of coming into contact with the intaglio plate roll surface, and a surface plate which is movable between a printing position where it comes into contact with the printing roll and a standby position where it leaves the printing roll and placed and held on a substrate, and an alignment layer removing device is equipped with a stage capable of traveling while placed and held on the substrate and a head part fitted with a device reading a mark of the substrate and a plasma generating nozzle.
