PURPOSE: To obtain a liq. crystal which is in a white cloudy state at room temp., a laminate formed by laminating the liq. crystal on a substrate, and a window which is prepd. by using the laminate, exhibits a white cloudiness selectively on only the plane exposed to the direct sunshine, and provides energy- saving effects.

CONSTITUTION: The liq. crystal is prepd. by adding 0.01-5wt.% water-sol. electrolyte to a lyotropic cholesteric liq. crystal comprising a linear homopolysaccharide deriv. and water. The laminate is prepd. by laminating the prepd. liq. crystal on an at least partially transparent substrate. The window is prepd. by using the laminate.
