Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal panel and liquid crystal projection type television of a high-brightness display and high contrast. CONSTITUTION:A rugged section-shaped layer 15 is formed on at least either of picture element electrodes 14 and counter electrode 22 of a liquid crystal panel. A high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal is used for the liquid crystal. The rugged section-shaped layer 15 is formed by using a material having the same refractive index as the refractive index np of the polymer in the high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal or the refractive index near the above-mentioned refractive index and more preferably the polymer material in the high-polymer dispersed liquid crystal. The refractive index n1 of the rugged section-shaped layer 15 and the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer are different when the liquid crystal is in a scattered state. Then, the incident light on the liquid crystal panel is scattered and diffracted. The ordinary light refractive index no of the liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy is equaled to n1 and np when the liquid crystal is in a transmission state. The difference in the refractive index between the rugged section-shaped layer 15 and the liquid crystal layer is then eliminated and the light advances rectilinearly as it is. The contrast is improved by the scattering effect and diffraction effect and the high-brightness display is executed.
