Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge apparatus and a liquid discharge method, which can maintain excellent ink discharge by using volume variation and can be reduced in size.SOLUTION: A liquid discharge apparatus comprises: a liquid discharge head 2 having an upstream side supply port of a pressure chamber, which communicates with a nozzle for discharging a liquid, and a downstream side discharge port of the pressure chamber; a first gas chamber which contains gas in contact with the liquid from the discharge port; a second gas chamber which contains gas in contact with the liquid to the liquid supply port; a third gas chamber communicating with the first gas chamber; a first opening/closing part for opening and closing between the first gas chamber and the third gas chamber; a forth gas chamber which communicates with the third gas chamber and can be communicated with the second gas chamber; a second opening/closing part for opening and closing between the second gas chamber and the forth gas chamber; a third opening/closing chamber for opening and closing the forth gas chamber with respect to the atmosphere; a first volume variable part for changing the volume of the forth gas chamber; and a control part for opening the third opening/closing part to the atmosphere in a state of closing the first opening/closing part and the second opening/closing part, and then changing the volume of the third gas chamber by the first volume variable part from a closed state of the third opening/closing part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
