Abstract:
A simple, practicable solution is sought to provide protection against the theft of expensive aluminium wheel rims which are screwed to a wheel hub with a threaded bolt. The head (21) of the threaded bolt (11) is provided with external teeth (22) which a normal wheel wrench does not fit. To undo the threaded bolt, one thus needs an adapter (26), having corresponding internal teeth (33) and an external hexagonal wrench surface (28) for a wheel wrench. The adapter (26) is easily carried with the vehicle toolkit because of its size. The threaded bolt (11) has the same strength as normal wheel bolts, without problems. As a replacement for all standard wheel bolts, the threaded bolt offers a high degree of protection against opportunity theft. Since the number and height of the teeth are variable, the protection is even further increased by matching the threaded bolt and the adapter in the manner of a key.
