PURPOSE: To enable the max. control of a distance from the upper end of a transfer passage under machining to a crankcase axial center by arranging the upper end of the transfer passage in the portion of a pattern which is the same as a main locator.

CONSTITUTION: The primary locator is arranged on the portion of the pattern arranged with the upper end of the transfer passage therein, i.e., on the front side cylinder portions 150, 162 of a foam pattern assembly 10 in order to manage the distance from the upper end of the transfer passage in a machined engine block to the axial center of the crankshaft. The cylinder portions 150 and 162 have the upper end of the transfer passage therein and delineate the pattern assembly portions having all of the primary locators.
