Abstract:

To provide low thermal expansion cast iron which does not comprise cobalt at all, and can satisfy both of high damping capacity and high strength in austenitic high nickel low thermal expansion cast iron.

The low thermal expansion cast iron has an eutectic graphite structure in austenite based ferrite, and has a componential composition comprising, by weight, 2 to 3% carbon, 0.8 to 1.2% silicon, ≤0.6% manganese, 35 to 37% nickel, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities. By weight, 0.01 to 0.02% titanium can be incorporated into the low thermal expansion cast iron. It is preferable that the ratio of the eutectic graphite structure to the whole graphite structure in the low thermal expansion cast iron is controlled to 35 to 95%.
