Abstract:
To provide a polymeric additive for lubricating a crankcase of a spark-ignited or compression-ignited internal combustion engine, more especially a lubricating oil composition (lubricating oil) containing a specific poly(2-oxazoline).SOLUTION: A lubricating composition comprises a major amount of oil having lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 25 mass% based on mass of the composition, of a poly(2-oxazoline)polymer. The polymer has following repeat units. -N(COR)CHCH-, wherein the number of the repeat units in the polymer (n) is an integer between 4 and 1,000, such as between 4 and 500. The polymer carries an inorganic or organic nucleophilic polymerization terminating group (t) and an initiator group (i) connected to an N atom of one repeating unit, the initiator group (i) being effective to initiate polymerization of a linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbyl part. At least 5% of the total number of the groups Rin the polymer comprises an alkenyl group having 15 to 20 carbon atoms.SELECTED DRAWING: None
