To obtain a lubricating substance useful for magnetic recording media, etc., capable of sliding in low friction and abrasion between two solids which comes into contact with each other by including a compound having a structure in which a heterocyclic group is bonded through a polar group to a hydrocarbon group or an fluorinated carbon group.
This lubricating substance comprises a compound represented by the formula W-(X-R)n [W is a heterocyclic group of ≥6-membered ring, most preferably a pyridine ring; X is a polar group, preferably an ammonium based, an amide, an ester or an organic group containing the above compound; R is a hydrocarbon group such as an 8-100C alkyl or polyether or a fluorocarbon group such as an 8-100C alkyl or a perfluoropolyether; (n) is 1-3]. In this lubricating recording medium having a nonmagnetic support and a magnetic layer on at least one side thereof, the lubricating substance having the above constitution is added as the lubricating agent to the interior or the surface of the magnetic layer. Thereby, a magnetic recording body improved in durability and traveling property is obtained.
