Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recycling an Mg alloy by which the removal of Fe components and the refining of a cast structure can simultaneously be attained without using additive harmful for the environment, to provide a recycling agent, and to provide a method of producing a recycling agent.
SOLUTION: In the method of recycling an Mg alloy, a powdery mixture of Mg powder, MnB powder and Al powder is compacted, and the obtained compact is heat-treated to internally form AlB2, and the AlB2-containing compact is added to the molten metal of an Mg alloy. The recycling agent consists of a compact in which Mg grains, Mn grains and Al-B compound grains including Al grains and at least AlB2 grains are coexistent. In the method of producing a recycling agent, a powdery mixture of Mg powder, MnB powder and Al powder is compacted, and the obtained compact is heat-treated to internally form AlB2.
