Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a furnace for heating a glass rod to be used in a device for drawing an optical fiber from a glass preform, which has excellent stability in high temperature action and reduce grain contamination of the fiber by providing a specific constitution.
SOLUTION: In a furnace 20 to heat a glass rod, a zirconia susceptor tube 12 having an inner range to receive the glass rod, a cylinder type silica beaker 11 to limit the zirconia susceptor 12, and an insulation range comprising a magnesia grog 13 between the susceptor 12 and the silica beaker 11 are provided. In addition, favorably, a magnesia tube 14 to hold the magnesia grog 13 is provided between the magnesia grog 13 and the susceptor 12. In addition, an insulation layer 17 of alumino silicate is provided between the silica beaker 11 and the magaesia grog 13.
