Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic developer capable of ensuring good image characteristics even after it is allowed to stand for a long time.
SOLUTION: The magnetic developer is used in a developing method in which a photoreceptor holding a negative charge type electrostatic latent image on its surface and a carrier supporting a magnetic developer layer holding a prescribed quantity of electric charges on its surface and having a desired thickness determined by a layer regulating member are placed opposite to and without contacting with each other in a developing unit at a certain interval in a noncontact state. The magnetic developer of the magnetic developer layer is allowed to fly to the photoreceptor to make the latent image visible. The magnetic developer is obtained by attaching fine hydrophobic silica powder to the surface of toner particles which contain at least a bonding resin, a magnetic powder, an electric charge controlling agent and a releasing agent. The quantity of the electric charge of the fine hydrophobic silica powder is -200 μc/g and the area covering ratio of the surfaces of the toner particles with the fine hydrophobic silica powder is 80-120%.
