Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having satisfactory running durability and surface smoothness by forming a back layer with a coating material contg. a silicon compd.
CONSTITUTION: In a magnetic recording medium with a magnetic layer and a back layer on both sides of the substrate, the back layer is formed with a coating material contg. a filler, a binder and a silicon compd. represented by the formula, wherein each of A, B and D is -CH3 or -X-Y-Z (where X is 1-11C alkylene or -(CH2)3NHCO-, Y is an aliphatic, alicyclic or arom. group contg. at least three carboxylate ester bonds and having a number average mol.wt. of 300-3,000 and Z is -OH), (m) is an integer of 4-150 and (n) is an integer of 1-6. The silicon compd. has at least one -X-Y-Z group and the ratio between the number of the -X-Y-X group and (m) is 1:3 to 1:30. The sticking phenomenon of the magnetic layer to the back layer is improved over a long period of time.
