Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of reproducing data by scanning the track of same inclination with two magnetic heads, reproducing the track, selecting reproducing data, which are reproduced with the magnetic head of the small number of error symbols of the reproducing data and outputting the data. CONSTITUTION:At the recording time of the data, first magnetic heads 9a and 9b are operated as a recording head and at the reproducing time of the data, they are operated as a reproducing head. For a reproduced code word, an error is corrected by a first error correcting and decoding means 15 and a first error counting means 31 counts the number of outputted error uncorrectable flags. In the same way, for the code word to be reproduced by second magnetic heads 22a and 22b, the number of the error uncorrectable flags is counted by a second error counting means 32. The first magnetic heads 9a and 9b execute the scanning on a magnetic tape with proceeding to the second magnetic heads 22a and 22b. Then, the counting values of the first and second error counting means 31 and 32 to the same information word are com pared by a comparing means 34 and the information word, whose number of the flags is small, is selected. Thus, the reliability of the reproducing data can be improved.
