PURPOSE: To know the operation characteristics of a magnetic bubble memory by impressing a magnetic field to the surface of a substrate with a magnetic thin film which is installed in a moving mechanism, observing a polarization image of a bubble magnetic domain through a polarization microscope, and calculating its moving speed from a video signal obtained by shooting the image by a television camera.
CONSTITUTION: A sample 5 made of the substrate with the magnetic thin film for magnetic bubbles is placed on a sample base 5 and the sample moving mechanism 7 is operated by a control mechanism 9 to insert the sample 5 between a coil 2 and incident polarized light 4. The impressed current and frequency of a bias magnetic field generating coil 2 are varied by the control mechanism 9 to shoot the starting movement of the black-and-white pattern of the bubble magnetic domain by the television camera 8, and the moving speed is calculated from an elapsed time and data obtained by converting the video signal of the camera into a binary signal coded by the control mechanism 9. Consequently, the way of the movement of the bubble magnetic domain is measured in the form of capacity to grasp the influence upon the operation characteristics.
