To provide a maintenance device which can clean a nozzle formation surface of a fluid ejecting head, and can clean also a side surface of the fluid ejecting head, and a fluid ejector.

A cleaning unit 35 of the maintenance device includes a first rubbing member 43 used for cleaning the nozzle formation surface 21a in the recording head 21 which ejects inks from nozzles 22, and a second rubbing member 44 used for cleaning the side surface 21b of the recording head 21. When the nozzle formation surface 21a is cleaned, the recording head 21, and the first rubbing member 43 and the second rubbing member 44 are moved relatively to each other along a direction that intersects a main scan direction of a carriage 16. When the side surface 21b is cleaned, the recording head, and the first rubbing member and the second rubbing member are moved relatively to each other along the main scan direction of the carriage 16.
