Abstract:

To provide a new compound useful as an actinic energy ray curable compound exhibiting liquid state at normal temperature, curable by practical light intensity and irradiation dose and producible without using a photopolymerization initiator causing ill odor in curing, yellowing of a cured coating film, etc.

This compound is expressed by formula I (R is a 1-20C alkylene), e.g. 6-maleimidocaproic acid tetrahydrofurfuryl ester. The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by forming a carboxyl-containing maleimide compound of formula II such as 6-maleimidocaproic acid from maleic anhydride and a primary aminocarboxylic acid of formula H2N-R-COOH such as alanine and reacting the compound of formula II with tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol. A coating film having high gel fraction can be formed by the use of an actinic energy ray curable composition containing the compound of formula I.
