Title:
MANUFACTURE OF HIGH PURITY MOLTEN STEEL USING SCRAP AS RAW MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04198430
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently melt a steel contg. a high grade steel by recovering a part essentially consisting of iron from scrap to separate coating material, thereafter melting it and adding specified flux thereto to separate away impurities.

CONSTITUTION: Compound scrap is separated into a part essentially consisting of iron and metals other than iron and organic substance, and according to magnetization properties, the part essentially consisting of iron is sorted. The part essentially consisting of iron is heated to a temp. at which iron is not melted to separate away coating material such as plating parts and deposit. The scrap subjected to pretreatment is melted to manufacture a molten iron allay contg. 1.0 to 3.5% C. The above allay is mixed with flux essentially consisting of calcium carbide to remove various tramp elements and impurities such as S and P. Carbon in the molten steel in which impurity elements have been separated is decarburized away to obtain a desired high purity molten steel.
