Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the heat retaining property of the rear end part of a billet, prevent carburizing by an insulating material and improve a handling convenience of the insulating material in manufacture of a tube through hot extrusion.
CONSTITUTION: The insulating material 2 is attached to the rear end face of a heated billet 1 before it is inserted into a container 3. The insulating material 2 is of glass series and of a blind shape having no mandrel inserting hole in the central part. When the billet 1 is upset, the mandrel 4 breaks through the central part of the insulating material 2 to pierce the mandrel 4 into the central hole of the billet 1 and the insulating material 2 is interposed between the billet 1 and a dummy block 5.
