Abstract:

To provide the method for manufacturing a hydrogen storage alloy, causing no segregation, capable of suppressing the increase in internal pressure when used as a cathode active material, excellent in storage property, and having superior mass productivity.

In this method for manufacturing a hydrogen storage alloy by melting and casting raw materials for hydrogen storage alloy, at least misch metal and manganese are contained as raw materials for hydrogen storage alloy. Manganese is added in the state where the content of misch metal in the raw materials melted at melting becomes ≤40 wt.%. Melting is performed at ≥1300°C, followed by solidification. By this procedure, a hydrogen storage alloy ingot free from segregation can be obtained.
