Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a precise magnetic scale having high signal strength, without the necessity of finishing processing.
CONSTITUTION: A laser-beam absorbing coating agent 2 for absorbing a laser- beam 17 is applied on the surfaces of a magnetizable metallic member 1, and the periphery of the metallic member 1 on which the laser-beam absorbing coating agent 2 has been applied is covered with an overlay layer 13b which transmits the laser beam 17. And by emitting the laser beam 17 on the surface of the metallic member 1 through the overlay layer 13b, the surface of the metallic member 1 is magnetized by shock waves produced by the rapid expansion of the laser beam absorbing coating agent 2 generated by the irradiation with the laser beam 17.
