PURPOSE: To manufacture with a minimum required amount of photosensitive paint by filling a coating liquid tank with an auxiliary coating liquid which has a higher specific gravity and is more easily separable than photosensitive paint, then with the photosensitive paint over the auxiliary coating liquid, and immersing a drum to be coated in the coating liquid tank.

CONSTITUTION: A photosensitive drum is manufactured by filling a coating liquid tank with photosensitive paint 1 and applying the coating liquid on a drum to be coated 5. At that time, an auxiliary coating liquid 4 (e.g., mercury) which has a higher specific gravity and is more easily separable than the photosensitive paint 1 is poured into the coating liquid tank 2 to a required level, then the required amount of the photosensitive coating liquid is added. After this, the drum to be coated 5 is immersed upto a liquid storage tank in the coating liquid tank 2 and thereby the photosensitive coating liquid 1 is applied to the surface of the drum 5. Consequently, the photosensitive drum can economically be manufactured using the minimum required amount of photosensitive paint.
