Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent buckling in the circumferential part of a base stock in the case of forming the prototype of a rim from a thin disk-like base stock with a large diameter, in the manufacture of a pulley by roll forming.
SOLUTION: A thin disk-like base stock 1 with a large diameter is held between metallic dies 2, 3 and rotated around a first rotary axial line 4. A pressurizing roller 8 capable of rotating around a second rotary axial line 9 is provided with a concave rotary surface in the pressurizing surface 10; therefore, when the roller 8 is pressed against the outer circumferential face 7 of the base stock 1, the face 7 is hard to escape in the axial direction on the surface of the pressurizing surface 10. Consequently, no bending stress is generated on the periphery 11 of the base stock 1, so that it is free from buckling and folding and that it is normally crushed, when extruded into a forming recess 5, 6, to form a homogeneous prototype of a rim.
