Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method for manufacturing a rare-earth-element-doped quartz glass capable of easily and surely obtaining the doped quartz glass useful to an optical fiber laser, an optical amplifier, a sensor element, etc.

CONSTITUTION: In a quartz glass manufacturing method by which silicon tetrachlorides or silicon tetrachlorides and germanium tetrachloriedes are supplied to an oxygen-hydrogen flame and silica fine particles or silica fine particles and germanium fine particles formed by the flame hydrolysis are deposited and then the formed porous glass base material is sintered at high temp. and transparent glass is formed, and this manufacturing method is characterized by that a rare earth element compound is dissolved in silicon tetrachlorides or germanium tetrachlorides and the rare earth element is doped simultaneously at the deposition of silica fine particles or germanium fine particles.
