PURPOSE: To manufacture a forming roll die for a substrate of information recording medium and to manufacture a substrate using this roll by applying a liquid resin on an original plate having a grooved pattern of preformat to form a resin layer and then fixing the resin layer on the surface of the roll body.

CONSTITUTION: A resin layer 2 is formed to a certain thickness on an original plate or stamper 1 having a grooved pattern 3, then hardened and transferred to the surface of a roller 4 to be fixed thereon. In this process, the resin layer 2 is fixed to the roller 4 with the rugged pattern face outside. The resin layer 2 is preferably to have certain rigidity since it is mechanically peeled off from the plate after hardened. Usually, it is sufficient that the original plate or stamper 1 is ≥100 μm thick and preferably 400 - 5000 μm thick. Any material can be used for the resin layer 2 as far as the layer can be formed to have uniform thickness on the original plate or stamper 1 and the layer can be processed and hardened after the pattern is formed.
