PURPOSE: Not to flaw an overcoating layer of a color filter, by forming a brown color preventing overcoating layer on a color filter layer, forming a protective film on said layer, and cutting it from said film and separating it to color filters.

CONSTITUTION: On a glass substrate 34, a color filter layer 33 is formed. Subsequently, on this layer 33, overcoating layers 32-1∼32-5 are formed except a cutting line part. Subsequently, a protective film 38 formed by paraffin, etc. is applied on the whole surface. Subsequently, a filter 35 is cut along the cutting line, and is separated into separate color filters 35-1∼35-5. Subsequently, films 38-1∼38-5 are removed. After that, the filter 35-1 is stuck on a CCD substrate 36. According to this method, when the filter 35 is cut and is divided into separate color filters 35-1∼35-5, there is no possibility that the layers 32-1∼32-5 are flawed by its broken pieces.
