PURPOSE: To manufacture a high reliability vacuum vessel of a flat plate type display device, which can maintain high air-tightness.

CONSTITUTION: A member to be joined 2 is adhered previously to a face glass 1, which is set on a moving mody 6 so that it is positioned to allow welding of the member 2. A metal vessel 4 is placed on this member 2 and aligned, and an upper holder plate 7 is fastened to a lower holder plate 6 using screw 8, and thereby the member 2 can be put in tight attachment to a flange 4a of the vessel 4. If this fastener device composed of the plates 6, 7 and screw 8 is constructed good light, practicability of free motion is secured even though distortion is generated in the flange 4a through laser welding.
