Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing 2-methyl-2-adamantyl (meth)acrylate in a high yield with a high efficiency on an industrial scale by using methylmagnesium chloride.

The method for manufacturing 2-methyl-2-adamantyl (meth)acrylate comprises causing 2-adamantanone to react with methylmagnesium chloride to obtain a magnesium chloride salt of 2-methyl-2-adamantanol and causing the product to react with a (meth)acrylic acid halide, where methylmagnesium chloride is used as a solution satisfying the condition of expression (1) below in the reaction of 2-adamantanone with methylmagnesium chloride. 0.8<(the molar number of methylmagnesium chloride in the solution)/(the total molar number of magnesium existing in the solution) (1).
