Abstract:

To provide an application liquid for catalyst electrode layer formation used for forming a catalyst electrode layer, capable of improving power generation performance of a fuel cell, and to provide its manufacturing method.

In order to solve the above problem, this manufacturing method of this application liquid for catalyst electrode layer formation is used for forming a catalyst electrode layer used for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. The manufacturing method includes an electrolyte material dispersion process for dispersing an electrolyte material 3 in a solvent, to form micelles in the electrolyte material; a removal process for removing micelles, each having a micelle diameter not smaller than a predetermined value out of the micelles; and a catalyst dispersion process for dispersing catalyst 2-support carbon 1 in the solvent after the removal process. In the manufacturing method, the catalyst electrolyte layer, with the electrolyte material evenly attached to the catalyst-supporting carbon, is formed to expand a three-phase interface of the catalyst electrode layer, whereby power generation performance is improved.
