Abstract:

To provide a method for simply manufacturing, in a short time, a hydroxyalkyl cellulose the aqueous solution of which exhibits excellent transparency.

The manufacturing method for the hydroxyalkyl cellulose comprises allowing a washed alkali cellulose, obtained by washing alkali cellulose obtained from cellulose and an alkali metal hydroxide as raw materials with a washing liquid comprising methyl isobutyl ketone, methanol and water and subsequently with methyl isobutyl ketone, to react with an alkylene oxide.
