Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a VAR method for stably producing an ingot having excellent casting surface quality.SOLUTION: A VAR furnace includes a deposit detection device for detecting the deposit formed by scattering of arc-melted metal on the inner surface of a crucible. When the deposit detection device detects or predicts the increase of the deposit on the inner surface of the crucible in manufacture of an ingot, the melting conditions of a consumable electrode are shifted toward one direction. When the deposit detection device detects or predicts the increase of the deposit after the shift of the melting conditions, the melting conditions are shifted toward the opposite direction. When the deposit detection device detects and predicts no increase of the deposit after the shift of the melting conditions, the melting conditions are maintained. The control of the melting conditions described above is repeated in the VAR method for manufacturing an ingot.
