To manufacture powder of carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt (CMC-Na) of high apparent specific gravity.

In this manufacturing method for the powder of the carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt, the CMC-Na containing 30-50 wt.% of volatile matter is obtained by separating a solvent in the neutralized CMC-Na, after an etherification reaction by a solvent method, then water is added to the CMC-Na, the CMC-Na containing 30-50 wt.% of volatile matter is prepared thereby to be kneaded, a by-product salt and the water in the CMC-Na are removed by feeding the CMC-Na after kneaded into an aqueous methanol having 5-15 wt.% of water content comprising 10-30 times of amount of the CMC-Na, and by stirring those, followed to be dried and pulverized so as to manufacture the powder of the carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt having 0.5-0.8 of apparent specific gravity.
