To provide a method of manufacturing a material which contains an essentially metallic base material, i.e., matrix and a second phase in the matrix and in which the second phase already shows, at the time of small amplitude of vibration, high damping property and sufficiently high tensile strength and elongation to enable use as a structural material and further to provide a method of manufacturing a material having high damping property and high strength while obviating the necessities of additional stages by complicated methods, such as high temp. sintering, and restrictions on the form of the material of the second phase.
This material is a material which consists of an essentially metallic base material and a second phase and has high damping property of material and tensile strength, and further, the above second phase is composed of metal and has, at least in part, martensitic crystal structure. This material can be obtained by solidifying a mixture consisting of the base material of powder form and the second phase by means of heat treatment at 400-700°C under a pressure of 1000-3000 bars.
