PURPOSE: To improve measurement efficiency by switching a wavelength of polarizing light to be projected to a sample, processing angle dependence data of transmission light intensity at a specific wavelength, determining a wavelength to be measured next and making measurements with a plurality of kinds of wavelengths.
CONSTITUTION: A filter part 12 equipped with several filter elements is actuated via a CPU 20 by a filter driver 17 so that a filter for permitting required wavelength through is selected. A polarizing board 13 and a detecting board 15 are provided in a state of a parallel Nicol's prism to each other wherein they are relatively rotated with respect to a sample 14 by a polarizing board driver 18 around an optical axis while the sample 14 is interposed between them. Light emitted from a light source 11 using a halogen lamp is sampled via the filter part 12, the polarizing board 13 and the sample 14 for each predetermined rotation angle of the detecting board 14 during its stopping, and input via a data input part 19 to the CPU 20 as a digital signal. The CPU 20 processes angle dependence data of transmission light intensity at a specific wavelength, which is to be output to a CRT 21 and a printer 22.
