Title:
MEASURING APPARATUS FOR DEGREE OF DETERIORATION OF OIL FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06207904
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To surely detect the deterioration of an oil by determining the degree of deterioration resulting from the oxidation (undissolved substance) from the absorbance of a shorter (longer) wavelength.

CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for a gasoline engine, a light source 11 generates a sufficiently intense light of 0.4-1.6μm wavelength. The intensity of the transmitted light of approximately 0.4-1μm wavelength among the light passing through a to-be-measured oil of a sample cell 12 is measured by a photocell 13. The intensity of the transmitted light of 0.9-1.6μm wavelength is measured by a photocell 14. Light source monitors 15, 16 compensate for the change of the intensity of the absorbed light in cells 13, 14 due to the change of the emitting intensity of the light source 11. The degree of oxidation is obtained according to a specific formula based on an integral value of the intensity of the transmitted light measured by the cell 13 with the wavelength and the intensity of the light of the light source measured by the corresponding monitor 15. Moreover, the amount of oil not dissolved is obtained by a specific formula from an integral value of the intensity of the transmitted light measured by the cell 14 with the wavelength and the intensity of the light of the light source measured by the monitor 16. The degree of deterioration of the lubricating oil is surely detected while the obtained degree of oxidation and the amount of the oil not dissolved are used as characteristics.
