A mechanical parking device 1 comprises: a pallet 5 for placing a vehicle to be lifted or lowered; a lifting device (7) which lifts or lowers the pallet 5 between an underground pit p and the ground surface A; and a plurality of underground columns (23 and 24) installed in the underground pit P. The lifting device (7) includes suspension chains 70 and 71 for suspending the pallet 5, a suspension sprocket 74 wound with the suspension chains 70 and 71, drive sprockets (73a, 73b, and 73c) for driving the suspension chains 70 and 71, and an electric motor 72 for rotatably driving the drive sprockets (73a, 73b, and 73c) through power transmission mechanisms (72a and 72b). The suspension sprocket 74 is disposed at the uppermost part of the underground columns (23 and 24) in the underground pit P.
