PURPOSE: To enable soft paper sheets to be aligned widthwise without occurrence of winkles or the like, in a mechanism for widthwise feeding paper sheets to a reference plane, by winding the paper sheets onto the periphery of a drum provided with a flange part which constitutes the reference plane so that the paper sheets are contacted to a friction roller.
CONSTITUTION: A skew drum 15 for aligning, with a predetermined reference plane, a bank note 2 which is entered by being guided by a guide 31, rotates in the direction of A together with a clamp belt 16, thereby the bank note 2 is held between the drum 15 and the belt 16. At this time, the bank note 2 is in part contacted to friction rollers 28, 29 of a skew roller 21a, 21b or 21c, and is, then, shifted to a flange part 15a by means of the rollers 28, 29 rotated in the direction of B by a worm gear 27 which is engaged with a worm shaft 22, thereby the bank note 2 is widthwise fed, suitably. In this condition, the bank note 2 is bent along the periphery of the drum 15 so that the rigitidy of the bank note 2 against force applied toward the direction of widthwise feed may be increased, thereby creases and wrinkels of the bank note 2 may be prevented from being occurred.
