To provide a medium discrimination device and a currency handling device, capable of suppressing a medium from floating without affecting detection or discrimination of a medium.SOLUTION: A medium discrimination device 1 that performs discrimination by using an image obtained by imaging a coin K as a medium, includes: an imaging unit 31 that images a conveyance surface Ra on which the medium is conveyed, and the medium being conveyed; and elastic members 14 as pressing members that press the medium onto the conveyance surface. The pressing members are disposed within an imaging range of the imaging unit 31, in particular, in the vicinity of the center of the imaging range in a conveyance direction of the medium.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
