PURPOSE: To detect the capacity of a memory card to which attribute information of an SRAM card, etc., is not recorded and to effectively access to a memory area in the same way as a PC card.
CONSTITUTION: A sequence control part 230 controls a data control part 220 and reads attribute information from the memory card loaded through a connector 300. When attribute information cannot be read, a first prescribed code is written into a head address, and whether the code can be read or not is detected. When it can be read, the address is updated by prescribed quantity and a second prescribed code is written into the address. Then, whether data of the head address is the first prescribed code or not is recognized, and whether data of the updated address is the second prescribed code or not is detected. The operation is repeated and memory capacity is calculated at the address where the first prescribed code or the second prescribed code of the head address cannot be read. Then, effective access is executed for every card in accordance with the capacity of the respective cards.
