Abstract:

To expand sales channel and usage of merchandise provided via the Internet by distributing a CD storing merchandise having a restricted use to release the merchandise from such restriction via the Internet.

A large number of CD 11 including a ROM area 12 recording product versions with a restricted use as well as trial versions of a plurality of kinds of software and a writable RW area 13 is prepared, temporarily placed at PC shops or other stores, and distributed to a person interested in the software. When a PC 31 having the CD 11 set in a drive 32 calls a server 31 via the Internet 100, the server 21 delivers a release key to the PC 31 after completing user registration. The removing key is then written in the RW area 13 of the CD 11, thereby unrestricting the product versioned software.
