Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a low-cost metal-based composite material by blending a metal matrix with ceramic fibers and ceramic particles as reinforcing materials.
CONSTITUTION: A metal matrix such as an Al alloy is blended with proper amts. of ceramic fibers such as SiC whiskers and ceramic particles such as SiC particles as reinforcing materials. A metal-based composite material having excellent strength and satisfactory workability and well usable as stock of a general-purpose structural member can be produced at a low cost.
