PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject apparatus which can maintain performance of its packing for a long period and improves cooling efficiency of the outer peripheral surface of its hollow revolving cooling member.
SOLUTION: This metal refining apparatus is provided with a melting furnace 1, crucible 2, hollow revolving shaft arranged to pass through the ceiling 1a of the melting furnace 1, a packing 9 sealing the gap between the outer peripheral surface of the revolving shaft 3 and the periphery of a revolving shaft through part in the ceiling 1a of the melting furnace 1, and a hollow revolving cooling member 4 on the lower end of the revolving shaft 3. Inside the revolving shaft 3, a cooling fluid discharge pipe 17, whose bottom end is positioned in the cooling member, is arranged. The respective upper ends of the revolving shaft 3 and the cooling fluid discharge pipe 17 are connected to a rotary joint 19. The space between the inner peripheral surface of the revolving shaft 3 and the outer peripheral surface of the cooling fluid discharge pipe 17 serves as a cooling fluid passage. An expanded opening 17a is formed in the lower part of the cooling fluid discharge pipe 17 which is immersed in the cooling fluid 4. The upper end part of the cooling fluid passage and the pipe way of the cooling fluid discharge pipe 17 are made to communicate with a cooling fluid inlet and outlet formed in the body 20 of the rotary joint 19, respectively.
