Abstract:
Ultrafiltration with a retentate flow rate of more than 1 m/second is used as a method for reducing the impurity content by up to 99 wt% in elastomers made by emulsion polymerisation. A method for the production of purified elastomers (I) made by emulsion polymerisation, in which the impurity content (II) is reduced by up to 99 wt%, involves (a) ultrafiltration of a solution of the elastomer in an organic solvent to give a permeate containing (II) and a retentate containing purified (I) and (b) using a retentate flow rate of more than 1 m/second during ultrafiltration. Independent claims are also included for (1) purified elastomers (I) obtained by this method (2) products obtained by processing (I).
