To provide a new method for adjusting a tool diameter of a machine tool being different from a conventional automatic adjusting method and capable of automatically adjusting the tool diameter, and a machine tool.
By way of an abutting process, a mobile body 52 is made to slide with respect to a housing 51 so that the location of a cutting tool 70 may be at a prescribed position in a direction moving away from a rotation shaft line, with the result that a reference section 52c of the mobile body 52 is made to abut on a position adjustment reference member 83. Subsequently, by way of an adjusting process, the relative position between a holding means 2 and the position adjustment reference member 83 is changed in such a way that the holding means 2 and the position adjustment reference member 83 come close to each other subsequent to the abutting process, with the result that the position of the cutting tool 70 with respect to the rotation shaft line is adjusted. Each process is performed in a tool standby region.
