PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To magnify a measuring concn. range by adjusting the wavelength of laser beam at a position shifted from the center position of the absorption wavelength of an element to be analyzed by a specific value.
SOLUTION: Laser beam of which the wavelength is adjusted to a position shifted from the center position of the absorption wavelength of an element to be analyzed by 0.001-0.03 mm is used and guided to the vicinity of the surface of a molten metal to be passed through a molten metal vapor layer to measure the change in the intensity of laser beam caused by the passage. A relational expression of the change quantity of intensity and the concn. of a component element in a metal is preliminarily calculated and the concn. of the element to be analyzed is calculated from the measured change quantity of intensity by using the relational expression. Herein, the absorption spectrum by the element to be analyzed has width with respect to the wavelength of light because the temp. or the like of an absorbing substance thereof exerts effect. That is, the change of intensity by absorption is max. in the center wavelength of absorption and reduces along with shift quantity at a wavelength position shifted from a center wavelength.
